Est. 1842
The business was formed in 1842 by Richard Badger who became a vintner after selling medicated wine at his pharmacy. In the late 1850s he passed the business to his nephew, Edward Sheldon. During the latter part of the 19th century the business flourished, supplying wines throughout the UK and to many parts of the Empire. Vintage port, Madeira, and sherry were shipped to Warwickshire’s affluent country houses, officers’ messes here and abroad, and universities. We treasure a number of old price lists and ledgers from the late 19th and 20th centuries that make fascinating reading!

The ownership of the business has changed several times since Edward Sheldon’s time, most recently in 2018. We’ve chosen to keep the Sheldon name because it acknowledges our heritage and the amazing work that Edward Sheldon put into the business in his time.
